A Metro-Atlanta environmental consulting firm has an immediate opening for a wetland ecologist to assist with ecology surveys throughout Georgia and the Southeast. This person will work as a soil scientist, biologist, or wetland ecologist. This person will work independently with minimal direction in the office and in the field. Primary responsibilities will be in wetland and stream delineations, protected species assessments, biological assessments, hydric soils investigations, interaction with governmental agencies, technical/report writing, and be involved in environmental permitting.
Applicants should have a minimum of a Master’s degree in soil science, biology, botany, ecology, hydrology, environmental science, forestry, natural resources, or closely related field of study. Must have desire and ability to obtain professional certification and must be passionate about their environmental specialty. Field experience in native and exotic/invasive plant identification is essential. Preference will be given to those who have soil science experience; wetland and stream delineation; wetland mitigation design; environmental permitting; protected species assessments; biological assessments, and NEPA experience.
The applicant should have computer experience with Microsoft Office (i.e., Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint) and ESRI ArcGIS. GPS field mapping experience is preferred. Strong written and verbal communication is essential with the ability to prepare professional quality reports, presentations, and to provide quality client relations. Overnight travel will be necessary.
Physical demands of the job: Must be able to work safely in the field under variable and sometimes adverse conditions.
